Big PB’s & Results continue in the Pool & BIG Smiles outside on Day 4

SELFIEROG

The fourth of 5 Days of competition was a hectic one for the TEAM but spirits remained high as the squad of athletes kept their smiles on throughout a tough day of racing.

Finals today were again looking familiar as Jessica Burke (14), Ellen Walshe (12) and Niamh Murphy (20) were the athletes involved directly in the finals session this evening but the boys continued to put up valiant efforts as both  Evan Rossiter (13) & Finn O’Keeffe (13) finished the day as 1st & 2nd reserves in the boys 200IM after some strong earlier SelfieTEAMperformances.

The day was themed ‘Selfie Saturday’ by Swim Ireland so we got in to the swing of things first thing in the morning and then the racing kicked off with the Boys 400FC where the boys, in line with previous days results continued to progress PB times and improve rankings in their age groups. In the 13Yrs age Group Finn O’Keeffe finished in 13th place with a big new PB while Evan Rossiter also PB’d and finished in 16th place in the event.

Tom Giblin (15) was 23rd in his age group, while Eoin Feighan (15) was 35th in the same 15yr old age group and both boys enjoyed good PB’s with Giblin improving his time by 11 seconds and Feighan by just over 6.

Next up was the girls 100FC where Caoilfhinn Tan (14) posted a strong heat time while Ruth O’Gara (16), Jessica Burke (14) and Ellen Walshe (12) all raced in the same heat and all posted strong times with Burke taking a new PB and Walshe qualifying for her Age Group final where she further improved her PB in the final in the evening to finish in 4th place overall.  In the senior girls event Niamh Murphy (20) continued her preparation for Portugal as she posted a solid heat swim and converted a better effort in the ‘B’ Final.

Evan Rossiter (13) continued his run on his PB’s as he posted a further improvement in his 100BC, while Stephen Herlihy (15), albeit recently injured, was also pleased with his effort in the same event, albeit marginally outisde his PB. In the longer womens BC event Muirin Goulding (15) posted a strong heat swim as she had delivered earlier in the weekend, while Caoilfhinn Tan (14) posted a PB equalling effort while Jessica Burke (14) and Ellen Walshe (12) both posted strong Heat times to qualify for their age group finals, where Walshe finished in 6th place and Burke in 9th, respectively.

In the final event of the day, the boys topped off a productive morning’s work as they ALL posted PB’s in the 200IM as Finn O’Keeffe (13) took over 8 seconds off, Evan Rossiter (13) took 3 seconds off and finished in 11th with O’Keeffe in 12th while Tom Giblin (15) took a further 2 seconds of his PB as he too posted a strong Swim.

The final day of racing is tomorrow and the TEAM of athletes from the club will continue to deliver themselves with the same energy and positivity they have done all week.  Today’s Theme for the day was ocused on delivering the BEST race possible and so far so good this weekend, that intention has remained true, with one last day of racing to go.
