BIG day 1 for TEMPLEOGUE at the Ulster Age Groups
The first day of racing in Bangor got off to a superb start as the combined TEAM of 21 Templeogue Athletes (16 directly entered and 5 as part of a travelling Leinster Team) delivered some sterling performances on the first day of travelling to the event.
It was an early start in Dublin as the team departed at 5am but the racing was superb over both heats and finals. After multiple PB’s this morning a number of athletes were back for finals this evening.
Jamie Flanagan (12) swam strongly for a 5th place finish in the 200FC, before Tom Giblin (16) posted a new PB to pick up a 3rd place podium in his event as Traolach McKnight (16) finished 5th in another PB for him also.
In the girls 100FC, Ellen Walshe (13) smashed a big PB to touch in first place as she added the sprint FC result to her earlier first place int he 800FC also, where she set a substantial new best time. She also posted the fastest swim in the girls 200BC to take her 3rd Gold medal of the day. Team mate Alie Martin (14) picked up some valuable experience in the 100FC also as she posted a superb new PB to post a 7th place finish in her final.
Evan Rossiter (14) posted a new PB to finish 7th in the 100BS final before returning later in the session to further improve his 200BC result to finish in 3rd place and another new PB for him. There was some great celebrations too as Jamie Flanagan (12) and Ronan Tan (12) both posted big PB’s to deliver 2nd & 3rd place podium finishes in their 200BC before Joe Kenny (13) smashed a further 5 second best time from the morning to finish in 6th in his age group. Greg Sinnott (15) also posted another strong swim to see him too finish his final in 7th place. The final BC swim of the evening saw Tom Giblin (16) pick up another podium swim as he finished in 3rd in the older boys BC event.
In the final girls individual event of the day Leah Martin (11) further improved on her eralier PB to finish in 5th in her event, while sister Alie Martin (14) finished 8th & Caroline Ryan (15) was 9th in their respective finals with PB’s again for both girls.
The evening’s activities were finished in style as the Boys 12 & U Relay took top Podium spot as Ronan Tan, Sean Kenny, Ethan Brady & Jamie Flanagan showed great skills to win their event. Older boys of Sean Maguire, Joe Kenny, Evan Rossiter & Finn O’Keeffe were 6th while the girls of Leah Martin, Megan Culbert, Ellen Walshe & Alie Martin also finished 5th in their relay also.
Busy long day of exciting racing delivered by all and two further days ahead.
