ROLLING, ROLLING, ROLLING Keep those PB’s rolling!!!
Day 2 of 4 in the NAC today saw the TEAMTSC athletes continue to deliver some great PB’s and some rewarding final places at the Irish Age Group & Summer Open Championships.
The morning kicked off to a great start in the 100FC as Olly O’Toole (13) stepped up on the block to deliver the 2nd fastest swim of his life in his heat followed closely by Stephen Herlihy (14) and Ruairi McCarthy (14) who both swam strong PB’s in their heats. Next up was Cathal Tan (15) who took 3 seconds off his PB to break the magical 1 minute barrier for the first time, whilst team mate Tom Giblin (14) also smashed his PB to qualify for the final this evening a year out of age, where he yet again was inside his old PB in the final this evening.
In the older men Graham Field (19) posted a new PB as did Tiarnan Murphy (19) while John Martin (19) also delivered a strong heat to post the second fastest swim of his career and qualify in 3rd place for the final this evening, where despite swimming faster again, was short of a podium finish in a tough field.
In the girls event Ellen Walshe (11) kicked off her day with a superb PB, the first of the day, while Rebecca Burke (14) produced another strong swim to post the second fastest swim of her career, while Muirin Goulding (14) continued her excellent progression with another fine performance a 2 second PB. In the older girls event Alison O’Driscoll (17) posted a 2nd fastest lifetime swim also as Niamh Murphy (19) continued her show of strength to qualify for this evenings final, where she picked up a bronze medal tonight.
In the girls 100BS event Jessica Burke (13) had a beaming smile when she hit the wall, having smashed her PB by almost 4 seconds finishing as the 2nd fastest 13 yr old, but outside of final in the new format meet, while Alison O’Driscoll (17) also posted a seasons best swim to qualify for the ‘B’ Final tonight, where she was again faster to further improve on that Seasons best effort.
After a long morning waiting to swim the coaches watched with great pleasure as Sam Cosgrove (14) took over 34 seconds off his entry time in the 400IM with a superb display of controlled swimming as he won his heat and earned himself a well deserved result. In the Girls event Ellen Walshe (11) repeated a similar feat to finish in 7th place in her age group in a new PB which was also 34 seconds inside her entry time. Finally Jessica Burke (13) posted another superb swim with a 6 second PB in her 400IM to finish in 13th place overall in the combined 13/14 year age group.
In the sprint BF event John Martin (19) & Niamh Murphy (19) both qualified for tonights Semi Final with PB swims, while Murphy went further to swim the final in her event this evening finishing in 6th place.
the final event of the night saw the 800FTR for boys produce a 5th place finish for the TSC lads and PB’s for Tiarnan Murphy (18) who led off the team, backed up by a strong swim from John Martin to hand over to Cathal Tan (15) who further improved his PB from yesterday with a great relay leg to hand over to Graham Field who too was some 3 seconds inside his individual effort yesterday to finish the evening for the team in style.
Day 3 of the meet continues tomorrow and will be a very busy day so the team continues to search for PB’s and chase for best ever racing performances.
