Singing and dancing at the end of a WEEKEND of Racing!!
Today’s final day of competition in Limerick at the IRISH AGE GROUP Division 2 Meet proved to be another fantastic day of racing for the TEMPLEOGUE SWIM CLUB athletes who travelled to the competition for the weekend.
On this the 3rd day of competition, the athletes again stepped up on the block to produce some great results, PB’s, Speeding tickets, finalist places and some podium finishes.
First up this morning was the girls 400 FC where Muirin Goulding (14) continued her excellent form this weekend demolishing her PB to break the 5:00 barrier in 4.59, which qualified her for DIV1 and earned her a 1st place finish and the GOLD medal.
The next event was the 200 BS where Greg Sinnott (13) smashed his PB, while Joe Kenny (11) too delivered a PB in the Heat, qualifying for the DIV 1’s also and the Final where he yet again improved his PB, finished in 2nd and in the SILVER medal position. Teammate Evan Rossiter (12) also converted a PB Heat swim, which too qualified him for DIV 1, allowed him to race in his age group final where he also swam a further PB and finished in SILVER medal position. Traolach McKnight (15) also swam a strong PB in the heats, qualified for the final where he finished in 6th in another fine PB improvement from his morning swim. Eoin Feighan (14) also swam a new PB in the heats finishing in reserve for his age group final.
In the 100FC event Evan Rossiter (12), Eoin Feighan (14), Matthew Parnell (14) & Stephen Herlihy (14) all swam Heat PB’s with Herlihy qualifying for the final, the DIV1 and an overall 4th place finish, bringing his personal tally of qualifed D1 events to 5 this weekend. Not to be outdone Ms Goulding yet again took to the blocks, smashed a PB in the heats, qualified for DIV1 in both heats and finals and topped it off with a Gold Medal swim also
The final event of the weekend for all the athletes was the 200BC which didn’t disappoint with Greg Sinnott (13) & Joe Kenny (11) delivering PB’s as Kenny was reserve for the final. Evan Rossiter (12) qualified for D1’s in his heat swim and finished in the bronze medal position in the final this evening. After a busy weekend Traolach McKnight (15) & Matthew Parnell (14) swam season bests in relatively new events for them, while Stephen Herlihy yet again delivered a PB in the heats, another D1 QT, and then went on to dominate the race in the final finishing in a big new PB, which earned him a ‘Speeding Ticket’
The final swim of the day was Muirin Goulding’s 200BC where she delivered a predictable result, HEAT PB, D1 QT, FInal PB and another Speeding Ticket.
The Weekend in total saw these 8 athletes convert a huge number of PB’s with Irish Division 1 AG qualification times and some substantial improvements. Their attitude and positive support for each other was a credit to the team and they were able assisted by their parents and great team of staff. Special mention to Coach Peter Sherry who has worked tirelessly with the athletes this year and after a busy weekend joined the athletes in a little fun. (Give it a watch!!!)
Well done to ALL
