Leinster LC Champs – TEAM TSC do great job on Day 1
The Leinster LC Championships began today in the National Aquatic Centre and Day 1 of the meet proved to be a great day for Templeogue Swimmers. With 29 Swimmers involved for the weekend, the TEAM’s young athletes were aiming to benchmark their Long course times in what is for many of them, the first Long Course meet of the season.
Niamh Murphy claimed medals in her two events today as she finished in silver medal position with a great but unexpected swim in the 50BF and a huge PB, but also a bronze medal in the 100FC, one of her more favoured events.
Tonight’s Finals session saw Ellen Walshe (11Yrs) also compete in the 50BF Semi-Final with Murphy, delivering a great PB and gaining excellent experience in a Senior event. TEAM TSC was also represented with two girls in the 50BC Semi-Final and subsequent Final as Rebecca Burke (14) & Caoilfhinn Tan (13) both qualified for this final swim with some superb PB’s. Burke was also on the block in the 100FC, after a strong morning swim to qualify for the ‘B’ final. Her sibling Jessica Burke (12), delivered two additional final swims tonight finishing in 2nd in the ‘B’ final of the 200IM and delivering a strong PB in the ‘B’ Final of the 100BS. Nicole Walshe (14) swam a 20 second LC PB in a tough 800FC swim in the main final this evening. The girls combined this evening to deliver a strong result in the Women’s relay finishing in 6th place overall with a very young group.
Cathal Tan (14) was the only boy back in the finals tonight as he delivered a superb swim in the 200IM in both the heat, to quaify for the ‘B’ Final where he improved even further to better his PB tonight.
Earlier in the day the Boys of Tom Giblin (14), Ruairi McCarthy (13), Sam Cosgrove (13), Olly O’Toole (13), Matthew Parnell (13), Callum Ramkaun (13) and Girls Muirin Goulding (14), Aoife Robinson (14), Aisling Field (12) smashed some superb PB’s to qualify for both Irish Age Group Division 1 & Division 2 Championships and giving them confidence to race faster tomorrow and Sunday as the meet continues for the duration of the weekend.
Roll on tomorrow’s event!
