IRISH AGE GROUPS – Flanagan finishes in style while Kychygina’s pick up podium finishes
On the Final day of competition at the Irish Age Groups in NAC, the TEAM was delighted to support our 1500FC competitors in the first event of the day. Adam Flanagan delivered a superbly paced swim to finish in a new PB and a well earned Silver medal position. Conor Doyle also delivered a well paced effort to finish just outside his best in his event. The other boys were focused on the 200BC event with some great success as Cathal Tan, Eli McGrane Maher and Daniel McGrane Maher delivered excellent PB’s, while Jonah Clegg swam strongly and made it in to the final where this evening he finished in 9th place.
In the Girls event Jessica Burke swam a strong PB in her heat whilst, Rebecca Burke, Anastasia and Katrin Kychygina also proved good backstroke may be genetic as all three girls made it in to the finals this evening where Anastasia went on to further improve her PB with a bronze medal in the U12’s whilst Rebecca also finished her final with a strong effort, but her heat swim was a very impressive PB. Katrin won GOLD in her event with a commanding and well paced effort in the 14Yrs age group.
Jonah Clegg returned to the pool in the 100BS, qualifying for the final this evening and finishing in 8th place. in the final event of the day, the 200FC the morning proved very fruitful for Saoirse Bryson and Susan Fitzharris with excellent PB’s in their respective events, while Aoife Robinson and Katelyn Field delivered strong swims, which were marginally outside their PBs. Rebecca Burke delivered a huge PB to qualify for the final with Anastasia Kychygina in the1st reserve place, just missing out on the final, but also delivering a PB. Burke capped a superb weekend with a solid Final performance finishing in 8th place. Katrin Kychygina went on to the final in 14Yrs event finishing in the Bronze medal position in a new PB time.
In he boys event, Cathal Tan swam strongly in his event to post a new LC PB whilst Eli McGrane Maher delivered a superbly controlled swim to finish his weekend with another PB whilst brother Daniel did likewise in his swim. Conor Doyle also swam well with a solid effort just outside his best swim of the year, whilst Jonah Clegg after a busy morning was just off his best effort in the same event.
All in all the weekend has seen a lot of PB’s for the crew competing and after a tough weekend of competition, Katrin Kychygina returned with the 3rd place OVERALL title in the 14Yrs girls age group.
Well done to ALL athletes on their efforts, lots learned this weekend and for the year with large improvements in training capability and some good competition performances laying the foundations for further improvement next season.
