IRISH AGE GROUPS – Day 2 – Clegg, Kychygina & RELAYS make podiums

Day 2 was another strong day for the TEAM athletes with the lead event today being the Girls 400FC. Some superb PB’s by the ladies with Rebecca Burke (12) and Anastasia Kychygina (12) finishing in 6th and 8th place U12 in some superb swims.  Jessica Burke (11) also delivered a strong LC PB in this event, while Susan Fitzharris (14) demolished her PB in her event, whilst Katelyn Field put together a strong effort whilst Katrin Kychygina (14) finished the event for the Girls with a strong PB and earned herself a silver medal.

The boys in the 400IM saw Conor Doyle (15) tackle this event for the first time setting a strong result for himself to finish in 13th place in his event whilst Jonah Clegg delivered a swim to finish in 10th place in the 14Yr old age group.  In the girls 100BF Saoirse Bryson set a strong new PB in the morning heats to qualify for the final, finishing in 7th place this evening in the 13Yr old girls final.

Aoife Robinson lead the way for the girls in the 200BS with a strong showing and a new PB for her, whilst Susan Fitzharris swam herself in to the final with a massive PB finishing in 10th place in the event this evening.  The boys 200BS also produced some strong PB’s with Eli McGrane-Maher delivering an excellent PB time, but was unfortunately disqualified for a technical infringement on the turn.  Arun Ramkaun, swam a strong effort but being ill was outside his best time while Cathal Tan, having qualified for this competition in Limerick two weeks ago, produced a strong PB in his event, finishing in 12th place.  The flagbearer for the boys was Jonah Clegg, who qualified for the final in 5th place and then tonight, delivered a super new PB to finish in 3rd place and pick up a medal for his effort.

In the individual 100FC both Rebecca Burke and Anastasia Kychygina qualified for the final U12 after strong Heat swims and both girls improved again  in the final this evening to finish in 7th and 8th place, with Kychygina getting the touch in the final.  Saoirse Bryson and Aoife Robinson delivered PB’s as 13Yr olds with Bryson finishing in 15th place whilst Robinson delivered a substantial PB.  Susan Fitzharris, contued her good form in this event delivering a great PB taking almost 2 seconds of her previous best.  Katrin Kychygina also performed an excellent heat swim in a PB time to qualify fastest for the final this evening, where she delivered a further PB, but was touched out in to the Silver medal position in 2nd place.

In the Boys 100FC Eli McGrane-Maher delivered a strong PB, whilst Daniel McGrane-Maher  and Jonah Clegg were marginally outside their best time.

In the Relays our U12 Boys  and Girls swam strong heats and even faster finals to finish in 3rd place in both events.  The Boys of Stephen Herlihy, Ruairi McCarthy, Adam Flanagan and Tom Giblin went home happy with their Medley Team effort, whilst Rebecca Burke, Anastasia Kychygina, Caolifhinn Tan and Jessica Burke were delighted with their Freestyle team effort.  In the Girls 13/14Yrs the girls of Katrin Kychygina, Susan Fitzharris, Aoife Robinson and Katelyn Field were agonisingly close being touched out in 4th place in their FTR.  The Medley team for the boys of  Jonah Clegg, Cathal Tan and brothers Eli & Daniel McGrane-Maher  also made the final finising in 9th place this evening in a tough event.
