IRISH Age Group Championships – DAY 1 – Medals for Kychygina & Burke – PB’s a Plenty

The TEAM TSC athletes delivered strong PB performances on Day 1 of the Irish Age Group Championships in the NAC today.

The competition was extremely tough but the day got off to a superb start with strong PB’s from Adam Flanagan, Jonah Clegg & Conor Doyle in the 400FC and a solid swim from Daniel McGrane Maher.  Next event saw an outstanding swim from Rebecca Burke in the 800FC with a massive PB at both 400 and 800 to earn her a bronze medal for her efforts.

In the Girls 200BF event Saoirse Bryson posted a strong new PB to qualify for this evenings final where she again improved her best time finishing in 6th place in the event.

In the Mens 100BC both Jonah Clegg and Eli McGrane Maher delivered good swims with Clegg  posting a new PB but not being allowed to swim the final due to an admin error.  In the womens event Rebecca Burke and Anastasia Kychygina made the U12 girls final with Kychygina finishing in a strong new PB but in 4th place just outside the medals.  Burke topped off her excellent day with a nice new PB in the final also.  In the 14Yr old event Katrin Kychygina won gold in the event but was outside her best time.

In the boys 200IM Jonah Clegg delivered an excellent new PB in his swim but was outside the finals placings. In the final individual event of the morning Jessica Burke, fresh from qualification at Division 2 delivered a strong PB in the 200IM to post a new best for her in her first event.

Our Relays competed well with the U12 boys of Stephen Herlihy, Tom Giblin, Ruairi McCarthy & Adam Flanagan delivered a fantastic swim but unfortunately DQ’d for a break and couldnt contest the final.

In the Girls U12 event Aisling Field, Anastasia Kychygina, Rebecca & Jessica Burke swam a great heat and en even better final, being a full 2 seconds quicker and finishing in 4th place on the day.  The older girls of Katrin Kychygina, Susan Fitzharris, Katelyn Field and Saoirse Bryson did likewise finishing in 4th in the 13/14yrs relay.  Not to be outdone the 13/14 Boys of Jonah Clegg, Cathal Tan, Daniel & Eli McGrane Maher finished with a big better swim in the final to finish in 6th place but all improving their earlier efforts.
